Friends of the North Fork
Protecting the North Fork Since 1988
Founded by Robert Kranich and Garland Hudgins, Friends of the North Fork is the local nonprofit dedicated to protecting the North Fork of the Shenandoah River.
We believe a healthy river creates healthy communities. That's why we bring people together through education, stewardship, advocacy, science, and partnerships. From classrooms and riverbanks to town halls and community events, we work every day to protect the North Fork and connect people to the place they call home.
Educate
We inspire people of all ages to understand, enjoy, and care for the North Fork through hands on learning and community programs.
Steward
We support projects and volunteer efforts that improve river health and protect the watershed for future generations.
Monitor
We collect and share trusted river data to help our community understand changing conditions and make informed decisions.
Advocate
We serve as a voice for the North Fork by working with local leaders, partners, and community members to support sound conservation decisions.
Connect
We bring together volunteers, schools, businesses, nonprofits, and public agencies because protecting the river takes all of us.
